Volunteer Services

"Being a Hospice volunteer has allowed me to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families dealing with terminal illness."

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Depending on your skills and strengths, there are multiple opportunities for service available. Patient and Family support options include Home Hospice (in patient homes), Nursing Home Visitors, Bereavement, Coping Kids and Hospice Inpatient Unit. Other support options that are not with patients include office and foyer volunteers, as well as special projects, such as fundraising, community relations and "green thumb" (volunteers to help in the gardens at the Hospice Center). Click here for a complete list of opportunities.

Do I need any special skills?

Hospice volunteers are special. They're sensitive to others. They're non-judgmental. They have the ability to listen. And, most important, they really care. Additional skills and talents may also be very useful.

I want to be helpful, but feel unprepared.

Hospice provides training for all volunteers with sessions offered at varying times to accommodate your needs. A medical background or experience is not necessary. Additional training and in-service programs are scheduled throughout the year.

Where am I needed most?

We always need more volunteers to assist patients and families. If you have transportation, are available several hours a week, and are a "people" person this service may be of interest to you. In addition, there are a variety of other volunteer opportunities offered for a number of different shifts.

How can I get started?

Request an information packet. A volunteer coordinator will meet with you to schedule you for training. In training, you will explore what volunteer service best matches your talents and availability.

How can I find out more?

Just pick up the phone and call Hospice. One of our Volunteer Coordinators will speak with you to familiarize you with our programs and answer any specific questions you may have.
