Inpatient Care“We were overwhelmed by all of the personal attention and care that Mom received during her stay at the Hospice Center. The staff and surroundings made us feel at home.” When is inpatient care appropriate? While Hospice care is usually provided in the home, occasionally symptoms or crisis situations are more easily managed by a brief inpatient stay. Hospice of Lancaster County’s inpatient service is available in two freestanding Hospice Centers, each with a home-like atmosphere with the focus on comfort, emotional and spiritual support. What about my present physician?Hospice takes a team approach in providing care. Part of that team is your own personal physician. During an inpatient stay, your physician may continue to manage your care or may temporarily transfer medical management to a Hospice of Lancaster County physician. Can my family be with me?Absolutely. Because serious illness involves the entire family, we have an open 24-hour visitation policy including children. Patient rooms are bright and cheerful with plenty of space for visitors to sit and chat. Each wing of each Center has a warm and inviting living room where families can gather, and a modern, fully-equipped kitchen. How is nursing care provided?Experienced registered nurses and licensed practical nurses provide direct care and support to patients and their caregivers. All of our nurses are highly trained and work closely with the patient’s physician to provide effective pain and symptom management. How can arrangements be made for inpatient care? The admission and home hospice nursing staff assess the need in conjunction with the family and the attending physician. Inpatient care is intended to be brief and to resolve immediate concerns or provide intermittent respite. If needs are for residential or long- term care, families will be assisted with those arrangements. How do I pay for my stay?Medicare and most health insurance companies cover some or all Hospice services. We will assist in clarifying coverage for you. What are the rooms like at the Hospice Centers?Hospice rooms are designed to look and feel like home. In fact, both Hospice facilities look like a home rather than medical facilities. Patients are encouraged to bring personal keepsakes, to create a more home-like atmosphere.Where are the Hospice Centers located? The Hospice Center in Lancaster is conveniently located just off Route 30 and the Harrisburg Pike on Good Drive, across from the Women & Babies Hospital.
