Hospice of Lancaster County and Ephrata Community Hospital began working together more than five years ago to provide care for children and adults with any life-limiting illness who live in Ephrata and northern Lancaster County.

How does this help?

Hospice staff and volunteers work with patients, families and their physicians in the community to insure access to a wide variety of hospice services. This team approach in conjunction with Ephrata Community Hospital enhances quality of care and communication among caregivers.

What services are available?

Hospice of Lancaster County at Ephrata Community Hospital provides care, comfort and support for children and adults of all ages who physicians feel might have weeks or months versus years to live. The Hospice team provides specialized care for patients and their families that focuses on easing symptoms and relieving pain while providing emotional and spiritual support at a time when it is needed most. Care is provided at home whenever possible and focuses on comfort rather than cure.

There may be times when remaining at home is no longer possible. That’s when the inpatient unit at Hospice of Lancaster County offers a safe and comforting alternative. It is structured in every way to serve as the “closest thing to home” for patients and caregivers in need of another dimension of hospice care. Inpatient care may also be provided at Ephrata Community Hospital. Hospice care continues following the death of a loved one through regular support groups that are available to anyone in the community and a monthly newsletter offering ongoing support for over a year following the loss of a loved one.

How can I support Hospice of Lancaster County at Ephrata Community Hospital?

Volunteers are always needed. As part of the caregiving team, volunteers provide many and varied services to patients and their families. A volunteer may offer a break for a caregiver to run an errand or go to an appointment, help with tasks such as shopping or child care, or assist with patient care. Other areas in which help is needed include bereavement, Coping Kids and in the inpatient unit. Volunteers also provide office and clerical support, assist with fund raising events, community education programs and other special events.

The community's generous support of Hospice of Lancaster County provides for care and service for patients and families throughout Lancaster County. Donations are always needed and offset the cost of providing hospice services and bereavement support. Click here to make a donation.
