Camp ChimaquaJune 12-14, 2009What is Camp Chimaqua? Camp Chimaqua is a grief camp for children coping with the death of a loved one. ‘Chimaqua’ is Cherokee for “lover of the outdoors” and Camp Chimaqua is named in memory of a 12-year-old boy who died in our Hospice program. Camp Chimaqua provides a healing environment that is safe and accepting for children (ages 6 - 12) to share with others who have experienced the death of a loved one. The camp helps children to explore normal grief responses and to understand and express their own feelings.
Our GoalOur focus is on helping your child learn about loss, develop coping skills, build self-confidence and self-worth, and to enable your child to trust and love again. This is achievable through fun-filled activities and opportunities for small and large group sharing.Who are the staff at Camp Chimaqua? The well-being, safety and enjoyment of our campers is our first concern. Camp Chimaqua is staffed by professional counseling staff and trained volunteers.
Where is Camp Chimaqua?Camp Chimaqua is held on the grounds of Camp Shand, located just off Rt. 322 in southern Lebanon County. Campers and their buddies enjoy the excitement of a camping experience, sleeping in rustic cabins. Showers and bathroom facilities are located within a short walking distance of the cabins.Click here for a Camp information and registration packet. For further information, please contact
