What is Camp Chimaqua?
Camp Chimaqua is a grief camp for children coping with the death of a loved one. "Chimaqua" is Cherokee for "lover of the outdoors" and Camp Chimqua is named in memory of a 12-year-old boy who died in our Hospice program. Camp Chimaqua provides a healing environment that is safe and accepting for children (ages 6–12) to share with others who have experienced the death of a loved one. The camp helps children to explore normal grief responses and to understand and express their own feelings.

What is the purpose of Camp Chimaqua?
Our focus is on helping children learn about loss, develop coping skills, build self-confidence and self-worth and to enable children to trust and love again. This is achievable through fun-filled activities and opportunities for small and large group sharing.

Who are the staff at Camp Chimaqua?
The well-being, safety and enjoyment of our campers is our first concern. Camp Chimaqua is staffed by professional counselors and trained volunteers.

• An adult buddy is paired with one or two children to provide constant companionship, support and supervision throughout the weekend.
  
• Professional counselors provide informal talks on grief and loss concerns.
  
• A camp nurse is in residence and available 24 hours a day.

Where is Camp Chimaqua?
Camp Chimaqua is held on the grounds of Camp Donegal in York County. Campers and their buddies enjoy the excitement of a camping experience, sleeping in cabins with showers and bathroom facilities.

How much does Camp Chimaqua cost?
